German singer-songwriter Alice Merton released her new single “Blindside,” as her follow up to “Same Team.”

The Meaning Behind “Blindside”

“Blindside” talks about the fear Alice went through in the past, when someone she was in a relationship with didn’t make her feel safe and love, but everything in the opposite. “I sat down with a gun to my head. You told me not to move. ‘Cause if I did, I’d be dead. I cried out, but nobody ever came,” she sings in the opening verse.

“I have met and worked with lovely people in the past,” Alice shared on Instagram about the song. “But I have also met and worked with people who have made me feel trapped and showcased very controlling behavior. I wasn’t treated with the same respect that I had given, and I was given ultimatums that if I didn’t do smth the way it was asked of me, there would be consequences. ‘Blindside’ takes that dark side and turns it into an uplifting satire. Sometimes you meet people in life and you only realize much later that their behavior isn’t right. I guess sometimes they catch you on your blindside.”

The music video for the song captures its essence flawlessly. In it, we clearly see Alice and her romantic partner in what looks like a horror movie. Above all, Alice feels trapped and blinded by someone who doesn’t reciprocate her loving gestures, and we even see how this person rips his face off to show her the real “him.”

Alice’s New Album S.I.D.E.S. is Coming This June!

Alice Merton has been sharing a lot of new music lately. For instance, this year alone, she released the singles “Same Team,” “Vertigo” and her newest “Blindside.” Well, there is actually a very good reason for that. She is dropping her upcoming studio album this June! All of these singles, plus last year’s “Hero” and “Island” will be featured in the album.

Her new album will be titled S.I.D.E.S., and it’s set for release on June 17. The tracklist has already been revealed, and it will include a total of 15 songs featuring unreleased tunes like “Loveback,” “Future,” “Blurry” and “Mania.”
