As I live and breathe I am continuously surprised and intrigued with the new blood of the music industry. British singer Baby Queen has released the beautifully somber and hopeful “Colours of You”.
Starting off with a somber piano and small synth accompanied by wondrous lyrics. Baby Queen sings of a husk of a person, bleak and drowned in a gray hue. A feeling all too familiar for practically all of us and looms in each era of our lives.
“I speak in grey to match the shade on the inside of my brain,
I decay when my tongue touches the edges of your name,
White lies are coloured by context,
And oh my God, I’ve lost my innocence[…]”
That is, until someone comes along. Like in Twenty One Pilots’ “Tear In My Heart”, it takes someone coming around to show Baby how to live. Not just from a day to day, but how to breathe wholeheartedly in a world filled with color.
All the things that make that person them transfers and allows her to see things differently. The chorus picks up and so does the music. There’s a bass and synthy vibe that paints a modern love song vibe. The song continues then comes full circle as it ends with a piano as well, only now it’s heartfelt.
This is truly fitting for the Netflix Original that Baby Queens’ track is featured in “Heartstopper”. A series telling the story of two unlikely friends that become more as they go through school and teen life. The show is a critical success as well. With it garnering a (as of the writing of this article) 100% on Rotten Tomatoes!
Safe to say that Baby Queen has made a great first impression with her music. Aside from this, if the series garners more popularity then she could also garner more listeners.
