Calvin Harris Biography

The multi-talented Calvin Harris is coming to save the summer with his new album “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2.” Not only is Calvin Harris a chart-topping Scottish DJ and record producer, he is a singer and songwriter as well. He first gained popularity in the UK, and throughout his career has accumulated ten number one songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The success of the tracks “We Found Love,” “Feel So Close” and “I Need Your Love” on his third studio album 18 Months, granted him international success in 2012. The DJ announced the release date for his new project will be August 5th.

The Success of Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1

Despite his success with EDM and pop hits, Calvin Harris dabbled with different sounds and instruments on his 2017 album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.  The project brought us tropical and groovy instrumentals with hints of reggae, dancehall, R&B and 80s infused sounds.

“Slide”

For instance, the piano intro and funky beat on “Slide” featuring Frank Ocean and Migos was arguably the song of the summer in 2017. Ocean delivered buttery vocals and clever lyricism over a groovy summery beat and the track was a change of pace for popular rap group Migos. The Migos flaunted their versatility rapping over a faster tempo, incorporating witty lines.

“Rollin”

On the other hand, “Rollin” featuring R&B and pop vocalist Khalid, and rapper Future, is the perfect tune to blast on a warm sunset boat cruise. Although, the artists are stylistically different, but surprisingly, their vocals melt into each other on the track. Furthermore, these summer smash hits, as well as many others on the album, have created immense anticipation for Harris’ forthcoming album “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2”.

“Heatstroke”

In fact, Young Thug made an appearance on “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1” gliding on the song “Heatstroke” with Pharrell Williams and Ariana Grande. Many rappers might shy away from hopping on a Calvin Harris track like “Heatstroke” which fuses disco, funk, and dance. However, Young Thug embraces a challenge, and he dabbles in different musical genres and styles.

“Potion” featuring Dua Lipa and Young Thug

Notably, the lead single released from “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2” is “Potion” featuring pop diva Dua Lipa and innovative rapper Young Thug. The track contains a funky bassline, guitar, and smooth synths. Dua Lipa delivers a fun and sexy hook with smooth vocals. In fact, her large audience gravitates to Lipa because of her unique tone coupled with her catchy hooks. Young Thug flows over this bouncy track flawlessly with a few bars, which nod to his player ways. The immediate success of the track displays Thug’s impact on his audience and dire need for his individualistic sound.

“New Money” featuring 21 Savage

Like “Potion,” the second single on the upcoming album gives us summer 2017 nostalgic feeling. “New Money” features Harris’ first collaboration with rapper 21 Savage. The single is a chill hip-hop tune, with a guitar solo towards the end. Although the rappers’ delivery and lyrics are underwhelming, fans still have high hopes for the album.

“Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2” features

Clearly, these two lead singles convey that Calvin Harris is stylistically recreating that “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1” type sound. Except in this case, he is recruiting several different artists over his groovy summer beats. He announced the tracklist for “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2” last week with an album trailer. The features include Normani, Lil Durk, Pusha T, Coi Leray, Chlöe, Shenseea, Justin Timberlake and more. Make sure to tune in and listen to “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2” on August 5th given that, it could be the soundtrack of the summer!
