Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s Feud Escalates

Trading Disses Left and Right

Eminem surprise-released Music to Be Murdered By – Side B on December 18; unsurprisingly, it escalated Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s feud.

Eminem’s catalog of music is often inciting anger with other people within the industry. One this album alone, he brought up everyone from Rihanna to Machine Gun Kelly. The latter has been feuding with Eminem for years now, too, so his latest diss track wasn’t a shocker. (It did lead to a subtle response from MGK, who seems to not want to directly call out Slim Shady.)

On the track “Zeus,” Eminem talks about other rappers, like Snoop Dogg, “taking shots” at him. “Diplomatic as I’m trying to be, last thing I need is Snoop doggin’ me. Man, dogg, you was like a God to me – Nah, not really. I had “dog” backwards, but I’m starting to think, all these people taking shots at me,” he raps.

The History of Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s Feud

Many fans of both hip-hop artists believe this comes after Snoop Dogg leaving Eminem off his 10 Greatest Rappers list. Snoop Dogg released that list this past summer, right when Emniem was recording Music to Be Murdered By – Side B.

Each of them have a history of working with iconic hip-hop producer Dr. Dre, who is credited with discovering Eminem. It seems as though this mutual connection of Enimem and Snoop’s is a root in their diss tracks.

While visiting the radio show, The Breakfast Club, in July 2020, Snoop Dogg talked about Eminem’s success. He said Eminem wouldn’t be successful culturally without Dre, and yet still doesn’t compare to rappers of the ‘80s.

““Eminem! The Great White Hope. White rappers had zero respect in rap. Let’s keep that one, though. [Dr. Dre] probably put Eminem in the position that he would be considered one of the top 10 rappers ever.”

After referencing his own Top 10 Greatest Rapper list, Snoop Dogg began detailing about why Eminem was not on it. “don’t think so, but the game thinks that he’s a top 10 lyricist and everything that comes with it. [I think] that’s just because he’s with Dr. Dre.”

After the show, the interview with Snoop Dogg went viral. Then, Eminem caught wind of it and crafted a diss for Snoop on his album.

Eminem’s Side of the Story

After Eminem’s new album dropped and the world was listening to him diss Snoop on “Zeus,” Eminem explained the diss. He specifically referenced the Breakfast Club interview.

“Him saying Dre made the best version of me, absolutely, why would I have a problem with that? Would I be here without Dre? F*** no, I wouldn’t,” he explained on SiriusXM’s Shade 45 show.

“I probably could’ve gotten past the whole tone and everything, but it was the last statement where he said, ‘Far as music I can live without, I can live without that s***.’ Now you’re being disrespectful. It just caught me off-guard.”

After Eminem’s own interview explaining his feelings on Snoop, the feud took to social media. On an fan account for Eminem, Snoop Dogg responded that people should pray he doesn’t answer the “soft” diss. As Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s feud escalated, fans are going to have to pay close attention to what comes next.
