This past week, alternative rock group half•alive dropped some new music for fans along with a video with it.  The Long Beach trio have released their new single “Make of It“. The mysterious and energetic track is a meaningful perspective about turning trauma into whatever you make of it.

This is the fourth single that the band has put out and is written by half•alive and OJIVOLTA. OJIVOLTA is a creative production collective that consists of artists like Kanye West, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, and Jon Bellion. The video is also directed by Emma Portner.

“Make of It” follows previously released tracks “Summerland,” “Time 2,” and “What’s Wrong” which has over 12.2 million streams worldwide.

In an exclusive press release interview, vocalist, Josh Taylor had this to say about the band’s most recent hit. “As always, there are so many stories that went into the making of this song. writing, production, etc. but there was one moment of clarity in the writing process one night that felt like the crux to unlock this very personal story of mine which became Make of It,” he said.

” I came to realize that there was an anger-sized hole missing in our songs. There were stories that I was restricting myself from writing because I wanted them to be perfectly processed, with happy endings to tie everything together. but sometimes the unprocessed, unhindered emotion is what the song needs. when that was realized, I turned on my mental faucet of unfiltered anger, 45 minutes later, the song was done.”

half•alive Bringing Shows To Life Soon

Half Alive

As far as the latest tracks, half•alive comes with plenty of passion and great instrumentals for this to be a solid release. If you are already a fan of the like of Twenty-One Pilots and alternative rock, then this should fit the bill for you. However, in terms of sheer creativity, the song itself gets outshined by the video that comes with it.

As a band known for their dancing and amazing music videos, the experience of the song is only there when you watch the video with it. The message is powerful and uplifting, but I’m not sure if it would get across with the song by itself.

Additionally, the band just got done wrapping up a run of shows last week at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Next, they will be hitting the road with Twenty One Pilots on their almost sold-out “Takeøver Tour.” The first stop is in Denver, CO, and half•alive plans to do about 18 more stops around the U.S.
