Here’s What Happened at Big Time Rush’s Chicago Comeback Concert

On December 15, Big Time Rush performed at their first of their two-night-only comeback shows at the legendary Chicago Theatre.

Big Time Rush Return

This summer, Big Time Rush announced they were getting back together after a 7-year hiatus. The band parted ways back in 2014 after their Live World Tour came to an end. Now, they are officially back and better than ever, with all four original members taking part in the reunion.

To celebrate the big news, they announced a two-show reunion tour in Chicago and New York, which were going to be their first shows together since 2014. As expected, both shows sold out in minutes, with fans all over the country trying to buy tickets to the highly anticipated event.

The date of the concert finally arrived, and the boys did in fact not disappoint after putting on an astonishing show.

They Performed Songs For the First Time in 10 Years

The doors opened at 6:30 pm Central time. The show wasn’t scheduled to start until 8, so fans had some time to walk around, buy some merchandise, and get comfortable on their seats while waiting for the show to start.

At 8:12, the lights in the theatre turned off and the ones covering the stage turned on, making everyone present start screaming “Big Time Rush, Big Time Rush!” until the boys appeared. When they did, all you could hear was girls screaming all around the place. Just then, the music for “Windows Down” started playing, and the boys began performing their remarkable setlist for the night.

The boys kept the surprises going all night long, playing songs from all of their albums and tours. Some of them hadn’t been performed since 2011, like “Any Kind Of Guy” and “Big Night.”

Bringing the Nostalgia With “Worldwide”

To add more excitement for all the rushers in the building, all four band members performed previously practiced dance choreographies in which they demonstrated that they are still as good of dancers as they were 7 years ago. Logan even did a black flip while jumping off a mini-stage set for one person, which was one of the highlights of the night.

The band didn’t miss an opportunity to engage with their audience, stopping every couple of songs to talk to them. They would share stories of their reunion, give backstories on the song they were about to perform, or simply interact with the fans that were close to the stage.

Another surprise of the night that rushers were surely not expecting happened when James asked “Where is my worldwide girl?” which made all the girls in the audience start screaming at the top of their lungs. (“Worldwide girl” is a fan that Big Time Rush brings to the stage so they can sing their song “Worldwide” to them). Not only one, but two girls were the lucky ones selected to go on stage with the band, and they, along with the boys and the public, sang along to “Worldwide” acoustically.

A Perfect Close to the Night

The boys also performed their newly-released song “Call It Like I See It” as well as the unreleased “Giving You Up,” which they revealed will be out sometime in 2022. They continued singing oldies like “City Is Ours” and “Til I Forget About You,” and right after leaving the stage making fans think that was the end of the show, they came back to perform the classics “Big Time Rush” and “Boyfriend.”

That gave an end to the night, and the boys vowed to come back to Chicago (maybe in a longer tour) soon.
