Japanese Breakfast Debuts Korean Version of “Be Sweet”

Indie rockers Japanese Breakfast give fans a Korean version of their 2021 hit “Be Sweet.” The track was the lead single from the amazing record, Jubilee. The Korean version of “Be Sweet” features some added vocals from So!YoON! of up-and-coming South Korean indie rock band SE SO NEON. And the lyrics were translated to Korean with the help of dance and electronic queen, Yaeji. Japanese Breakfast frontwoman Michelle Zauner shared that the band created this version in preparation for their upcoming performance in Seoul.

Here’s what Michelle Zauner had to say about the track in a statement:

We thought it would be fun to put out a special Korean version of “Be Sweet“ preceding our upcoming performance in Seoul. I’m very grateful Yaeji helped me with the translation over a year ago. So!YoON! is one of my favorite indie artists in Seoul right now and I’m so happy we got to collab.

Back in December, I ranked Japanese Breakfast’s Be Sweet” as number four on Music Daily’s Top Indie Songs of 2021. How could I not? The track is danceable and bombastic, rattling with 80s synth pop riffs and colorful, shiny production. It feels timeless, so getting the new Korean version is a treat. I’ll have this one on rotation just as much as I did the original.

Japanese Breakfast are currently in the midst of a lengthy run of tour dates. They’ll play a special set at Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival in South Korea on August 6. They’re also supporting The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Florence + The Machine for select dates in October. Click here to see a full list of tour dates and ticket options.

In between performances, frontwoman Michelle Zauner is staying busy. Her best-selling memoir Crying In H Mart is being adapted into a feature film. MGM label Orion Pictures picked up the rights to the book. Last June, Zauner shared she’s writing the film’s screenplay and accompanying soundtrack.
