Music Daily is bringing you the second installment in our Re-Discovery with Saweetie. After the release of multiple singles, including Faking Love featuring Anitta, Best Friend (featuring award-winning Doja Cat), Slow Clap with pop star Gwen Stefani, and Fast (Motion), Saweetie closed out the year of 2021 with a new single, Icy Chain. Saweetie also performed the song live on SNL. This represents her debut as musical guest debut on the show.

On the show, aside from Icy Chain, she also played a medley of Tap In and Best Friend. Later in mid-February, we saw the release of “Closer.” This single brought about the collab of Saweetie with H.E.R. It went on to hit the Top 15 on Billboard’s Mainstream Chart as well as crack into their Top Hot 100.

The artist also has an album ready to come out, but she has delayed its release. “I don’t want to just put my name on something and then put it out. For greatness, I have to take my time — and I’m literally starting from scratch,” said Saweetie to Rolling Stone earlier this year. In fact, she declared that she had “grown significantly through quarantine,” and therefore is re-thinking and re-writing some of her songs. Pretty Bitch Music –this is the name of her album- is programmed to be published in early 2022.

Sweetie’s First Grammy Nomination

And to add another career milestone, Sweetie recently received her first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and for Best Rap Song. “I’m speechless I wish I had the words to express how I feel but I’m just so grateful!!!,” Saweetie commented on Twitter after hearing the news. “Being acknowledged for all the hard work me & my team have been doing feels AMAZINNNNNG.” Perhaps her next project will bring her a gramaphone.

“The Saweetie Meal

In addition to her awards and success, Sacramento rapper and songwriter has also recently concluded her collaboration with McDonald’s. In fact, since August 9th to September the fast food chain  served “The Saweetie Meal.” This meal included a Big Mac, fries, a four-piece nugget, Tangy BBQ sauce, “Saweetie ‘n Sour” sauce (sweet-and-sour sauce with a special packaging), and a Sprite.

Moreover, the special McDonald’s x Saweetie collection is available for purchase. It includes hats, hoodies, shorts and T-shirts.
