Superstar rapper Nicki Minaj just earned her first RIAA diamond-certified song! It’s none other than the iconic “Super Bass,” released exactly ten years ago. Can you believe it? We can’t, either!

“Super Bass” Brings Back Good Old Memories

Oh, “Super Bass.” I think it’s fair to say that we all have good memories of jamming out to this song with our friends in 2011. Whether it was at a girls’ night out, slumber party, at a club, or just driving around, this song surely brings good memories. I remember I tried learning the music video’s choreography every day after coming home from school, which, I can proudly say, I almost did.

“Super Bass” definitely marked a big moment in the life of Nicki Minaj. For many people, this was the very first time they heard the rapper’s name, and she started getting more recognition after this song was released. Now, ten years later, she’s one of the biggest and most influential female rappers in the world, and she has certainly earned that badge.

Nicki Celebrates Her Accomplishment

The song is so iconic that it finally got an RIAA diamond certification, meaning that it has officially sold 10 million units. To celebrate, Nicki took over to Instagram to share the big news with her fans. “Thank you for over a decade of support. #Barbz (special thx to Ester Dean, Kane, Juice, Taylor Swift, Sofia Grace & Rosie, Ellen, Young Money/Cash Money & Republic. This one was released before the streaming era, so millions of fans actually purchased the song. I’m so grateful for you guys. Sending love & blessings your way.”

The achievement makes Nicki the third female rapper to receive a diamond plaque from the RIAA. Earlier this year, in February, Lauryn Hill became the first female rapper to receive diamond certification when her album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, went ten times platinum. Then, only a month later, Cardi B joined the crew, setting her own record as the first female rapper to achieve the record with her single “Bodak Yellow.”
