Stela Cole Releases Girl Power Anthem “DIY”

SHARE

Stela Cole, a young pop artist who rose through the TikTok ranks, has released another hit single. Titled “DIY,” the track boasts all things girl power and independence, all while leaving an ex in the dust. Such an empowering song deserves a place on our Music Daily Discoveries.

Stela Explains “DIY”

“DIY” is an exemplary display of relationship angst. Stela Cole, in a short TikTok clip describing the song, says “Have you ever dated someone who thinks that you’re their mom, like you’re doing their laundry and their dishes for them. Then all of the sudden you look in the mirror and you’re like… why am I doing any of this for you?” Cole perfectly combines a playful melody with empowering lyrics for a true girl power anthem.

Fun, Angsty, and Relatable

Stela pulls no punches on “DIY,” speaking her mind freely without care of repercussions. Cole criticizes an ex, who apparently blamed her for all the problems he caused. She sings, “You can curse my name / and say “Look at this mess you made” / But I think that we all know / That you’re the one who’s misbehaved / Say you can’t live without me, oh my God / It’s such a shame.” Such fun yet relatable lyrics are part of the appeal towards Stela Cole, and are perhaps why she boasts more than 350,000 followers on her TikTok.

Stela Cole on American Song Contest

Stela Cole announced shortly after teasing the track that she’d be performing it on American Song Contest. The show is hosted by Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg, and Stela was chosen to represent her home state of Georgia. Stella stunned in a sparkly pink one piece with captivating vocals, lyrics, and choreography. You can watch her full performance of “DIY” here.

Listen to More from Stela Cole

“DIY” is not Stela’s first single on empowerment. In November 2021, she released “Walking on the Moon,” which emphasized prioritizing herself over people who don’t deserve it. Stela’s discography is full of similar convictions, and is absolutely worth a listen.
