Musicians Give More Than Music
It is the season of giving! The holidays are a wonderful time to give back to charities and foundations that support the causes you care about. Here is a list of musicians and the charities they have donated to over the years.
Taylor Swift and Habitat for Humanity Foundation
Always one to give, Taylor Swift has donated to countless charities, including directly to fans in need. One such charity Swift has donated to is Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to provide homes for those in need. The charity believes that “a decent, safe, and affordable place to live transforms a family’s life.” Taylor Swift has donated upwards of 100,000 dollars to Habitat for Humanity’s mission. You can donate too!
Elton John’s AIDs Foundation
Established in 1992, EJAF, Elton John’s Aids Foundation has saved over five million lives. They have raised over 515 million dollars. Their mission is simple: “to be a powerful force in the end of the AIDS epidemic.” 37.7 million people live with HIV worldwide and Elton and his team are committed to providing healthcare without discrimination.
Hozier and Black Lives Matter:
Hozier, Irish singer and songwriter, pledged to donate all royalties from his song “Jackboot Jump” to Black Lives Matter. In a tweet, the singer credited black artists for inspiring him to play the guitar and sing. Hozier said, “we need to educate ourselves to be better neighbors, allies, and friends.” This is how he addressed race relations in both the United States and Ireland. The Black Lives Matter foundation is a decentralized political and social movement protesting against racially motivated incidents of police brutality, as well as, any other violence against black people.
The holidays are a wonderful time to look back and give back to those who need it most. These charities are three of many you can donate to this holiday season!
