Another year has gone by. But not everything is bad news, as 2021 gave us incredible new artists to listen to. Here is our list of the top 10 Music Daily discovery artists of the year.

Magdalena Bay

The California-based synth-pop duo consisting of singer-songwriter Mica Tenenbaum and producer Matthew Lewin gave us amazing new tracks this year such as “Killshot” and “Push Me Away”. But that’s not it, they also released “Secrets (Your Fire,)” “You Lose,” and “Hysterical Us,” which were later included in their newest album Mercurial World.

Bakar

The British singer-songwriter made waves this year thanks to his experimental indie-rock style. In August, he released his first single of the year, “The Mission,” followed by “Build Me a Way” in December, which is really close to hitting 1 million streams on Spotify.

Paris Texas

The alternative hip hop duo made their debut in music this year, but the songs they shared made them become popular. “FORCE OF HABIT” already hit 4 million streams, and “HEAVY METAL” is close to hitting the mark as well.

Peach Tree Rascals

After going viral on TikTok with their hit song “Mariposa,” the 5-member group kept giving music to fans this year. More noticeably, they released their debut EP Camp Nowhere in March, alongside sharing the singles “Popeye,” “Everywhere,” and “Song From Hell” after it.

Samia

The indie-rock rising artist released a reimagined version of her debut album The Baby in January, which featured remixes and fun alternate versions with other artists of songs in the original album. She also released her 4-song EP Scout over the summer, which included the lead single “Show Up” and “As You Are.”

Spill tab

The rising alternative-pop artist only started sharing music on streaming platforms in 2020, but her music quickly gained attention. She now holds almost one million monthly listeners on Spotify. This year, she gave us stunning new tracks such as “Anybody Else,” “Indecisive,” and “Velcro.”

Coco & Clair Clair

The Atlanta-formed girl duo just keeps getting better and better. The two friends went viral in 2017 with the release of their hits “Pretty” and “Crushcrushcrush”. This year, they joined forces with Triathalon to make a remix of their single “YOU” and released their first and only solo song of the year, “TBTF.”

The Regrettes

The Los Angeles-based alternative-rock band joined forces with Lauran Hibberd for “How Am I Still Alive?” featuring Lydia Night. Later in the year, they released their first solo single “Monday,” which was quickly followed by the relatable “You’re So Fucking Pretty.”

100 Gecs

The hyperpop duo consisting of Dylan Brady and Laura Les stayed pretty much in the low this year; after having a busy 2020 year while working on new remix projects and collaborations. Nevertheless, they still shared their reanimation of Linkin Park’s song “One Step Closer,” and released their only song of the year “mememe.”

Waterparks

The Texas-originated rock band had a breathtaking year. They released new music non-stop since February, with songs such as “Numb” and “Just Kidding” later forming part of their Greatest Hits album in May. Later on, they collaborated with Autograf for “Snow Globe.”
